A special day of circus, movement, art, storytelling, nature, and outdoor exploration honoring Indigenous Peoples’ Day. Through playful, age-appropriate experiences, campers explore community, connection to nature, storytelling, creativity, cooperation, and caring for the places where we live — and discover that Indigenous cultures and communities are alive and present today, including here in the Bay Area.
Special project: We Are Connected
Campers create individual pieces inspired by something they notice in the natural world. At the end of the day, all the pieces come together into one collaborative Voltereta artwork — celebrating how individual parts become something larger when they’re connected.

Financial aid and a few need-based scholarships are available each year. Reach out and we’ll walk you through it.
We welcome children currently in a Spanish Immersion or Dual Language program, with at least one full year in a Spanish-immersion preschool or with a Spanish-speaking caregiver, or living in a Spanish-speaking / bilingual household. We also reserve a few spots for children with no previous experience whose families want to begin learning Spanish.
Pay annually, semi-annually, or in nine monthly installments (based on days per week), plus a deposit equal to one month’s tuition. The deposit is applied to your final month (May’s payment). Since the program starts mid-August, that month is prorated. Tuition isn’t refunded for absences due to illness, vacations, weather, or school holidays.
A security deposit equal to one month’s tuition is charged at enrollment, alongside the first month. If you withdraw before the year ends with at least 30 days’ written notice, the deposit covers your final installment; with less than 30 days’ notice, it’s non-refundable. A 30-day notice also applies to reducing days per week. For annual/semi-annual prepayments with 30 days’ notice, we refund the full months remaining until May, minus the discount applied at enrollment (10% for annual, 5% for semi-annual).
Walking pick-up is included for schools or bus stops within 1 mile of our location, with a minimum of 3 students per school on the same days, at least 3 days a week. If your school is more than 1 mile away, we’ll contact you directly to discuss transportation options.
Priority is given to returning families and those enrolled in summer camps or other Voltereta programs. We review every application and will let you know by the end of July whether you’ve been offered a spot or placed on our waitlist — please hold any availability questions until then. Carolina Duncan
Affectionately known to families as Coach Coicoi, Carolina Duncan is an artist, educator, and founder of Duncan Playful Circus. With a 20-year international career, she uses circus arts, play, and experiential learning to help children build confidence, creativity, and connection. Carolina studied psychology, social communication, and theater in Barranquilla, Colombia, and continued her circus training at the San Francisco Circus Center. Over the past five years, she has worked with after-school programs throughout the Bay Area. As Director of Voltereta, she combines bilingual education, movement, creativity, and social-emotional learning to create joyful experiences where children feel confident, connected, and excited to learn.

Carolina Ramírez
A lifelong educator, Carolina found her calling while searching for a creative, enriching Spanish-immersion experience for her own son. She trained in Early Childhood Education, Yoga & Mindfulness for children, and Business Administration, and has spent years building bilingual learning communities that have supported hundreds of families. As Voltereta’s Educational Consultant, she brings that experience, vision, and care to support the team and the families it serves.

Karla Rivera Lozada
Karla Rivera Lozada is a Puerto Rico–born musician and music educator whose work is rooted in the rich musical traditions of the Caribbean. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music Therapy from Berklee College of Music, and her background in music therapy deeply informs her playful and nurturing approach to working with young children. Through music, movement, play, and creative exploration, Karla creates joyful spaces where children can build confidence, express themselves, connect with others, and discover their own musical curiosity. She is passionate about celebrating each child’s unique strengths while nurturing a lifelong love of music.
